Legal threat emerges over erectile dysfunction

One of the key demands made by Republican politicians is to clamp down on trial lawyers - these inconvenient people who go round suing capitalists who cause loss and injury to others. Capitalism is all about making the maximum possible profit. If this means cutting a few corners and taking a few risks, that's an acceptable part of the game and should be without liability if things go seriously wrong. Lawyers have this twisted sense of reality. They believe manufacturers and service providers should be held responsible if they injure other people. The courts try to occupy the middle ground and order corporations too seriously at fault to ignore to pay out a few millions as compensation.

Which brings us to the emerging evidence of a link between Bisphenol A and sexual problems for men. Now you might not have heard of BPA but it's everywhere. The key uses are to harden clear plastic and as part of the recipe to make epoxy resin. Pick up any food or drinks container and the odds are it contains BPA. It's also used to line virtually every can of food and drink sold in the US. There's just one problem. The chemical leaches into the food or drink. That means everything you eat from canned vegetables, meat or fish, and everything you drink from juice to beer, contains this chemical. In adults, this may not be quite so bad but in babies and young children, it's really bad. So bad, in fact, that its use in any infant product has been banned in several countries.

The latest evidence comes out of China where men exposed to high levels of BPA were seven times more likely to suffer erectile dysfunction. The suggestion in the US is that BPA may build up slowly and reach toxic levels after several years, first showing in men as erectile dysfunction. The FDA will release its findings shortly. If it avoids the political pressures and finds the scientific case proven, product liability lawyers around the country will say prayers of thanks. The time of great suing will be upon us. All of which brings us back to those men in the US currently suffering from erectile dysfunction. Up to now, doctors have routinely tested for heart disease as the most likely underlying cause. More lab work may now be necessary. You could routinely buy viagra and treat the problem, but this may only be a short-term solution. No matter how good viagra is - and it is very good - it cannot combat chemical castration by BPA if you are unlucky enough to have eaten and drunk too much plastic over your lifetime.

How to deal with lower back pain

Lower back pain is one of the most common health problems around the world and healthcare professionals are continuously reviewing how best to treat it. Putting aside the individual for a moment, millions of productive hours are lost in the workplace and, with the loss of earnings that represents, there are serious implications for national economies as many find their ability to work restricted or completely finished. This puts pressure on national agencies to set best practice standards to keep the majority of adults in productive work.

Although the UK often gets a bad press for its National Health Service, one of the more successful features of the service is the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. This agency is responsible for co-ordinating national healthcare planning and directing individual agencies through clinical guidelines. It reviews all the available scientific information to decide which treatments are sufficiently cost-effective to be adopted across the whole of the NHS. The idea is to ensure that everyone gets the same quality of treatment no matter where they live. More importantly, the evidence-based approach is designed to produce better patient outcomes.

NICE has just published its guidelines for the treatment of lower back pain. It treats the issue as multidisciplinary, i.e. one that should be approached using a variety of different forms of treatment supplied by different groups of health professionals. The basic assumption is that patients benefit from maintaining mobility, i.e. everyone should remain physically active. So the key recommendation is for therapists to design home-based exercise programs which run in conjunction with spinal manipulation and massage sessions at clinics and hospitals. The conclusion is that intensive exercise is the best treatment, particularly if combined with cognitive behavioral therapy to teach coping strategies and reduce depression. The evidence shows that patients who have a good understanding of their condition manage the pain more effectively and make better lives for themselves. No injections or investigations using X-rays or MRI scans are considered cost-effective.

This does not deny the use of drugs to support the exercise programs. Indeed, nursing staff are considered vital in helping patients understand how to manage the more common side effects to using medication like tramadol. Constipation can make back pain more severe so learning how to prevent the side effects from worsening the underlying problem is necessary. The focus is therefore on front-line nursing staff and therapists rather than doctors and surgeons. The aim is to show patients that back pain is not a life-threatening condition and that, within the new physical limitations, they should get on with their lives as normally as possible. Although you can get a prescription to buy tramadol and, where appropriate, more powerful pain killers, their use should be kept to a minimum. Curiously, this contrasts sharply with the doctor-led approach in the US where expensive diagnostic testing and surgery are commonly used even though there is no reliable evidence that this approach is better value to the patients. Doctors in the US are powerful and protect their status and role in delivering health care. The only common feature between the two systems is the reliance on tramadol as the first-response for pain relief. No matter where you live, doctors agree tramadol is the best.

Should we follow the example of the treatment given to animals?

There is a wonderful idiom, several times used as the title to a movie and offering the comparative warning, "It shouldn't happen to a dog." It refers to some proposed act or omission that is so unpleasant to humans, it should not even be wished on a dog (being a mere animal, it might be expected to bear most things, but not this). Human culture has grown up with animals a part of our lives. Whether as pets, living as one of the family in our own homes, or as working beasts, we value them for "who" they are and what they can do for us. This means treating them in much the same way as humans. If they get sick, we give them our medications. Sometimes, they retaliate by acting as incubators to encourage viruses to mutate and, as with "swine" or "bird" flu, return the favor by passing us infections to which we have no resistance. But, in general, we worry about them. Even the animals we propose to eat are stuffed full of antibiotics to keep them fit and healthy. So, keeping this real, there are many protections we have put in place for our animals. The most carefully monitored rules affect horses. These powerful animals have become a key part of the gambling industry, running in races for our excitement and jumping fences for our admiration.

As with most sports, the fear is that horses dosed with stimulants and other drugs might run faster and/or jump higher. Think Barry Bonds and the debate about the use of steroids in Major League Baseball for an understanding of the passion in the world of racing and equestrian sports. At the top of the sport, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) carried out detailed research in the early part of this century and concluded it was unsafe to allow horses to compete if they were relying on painkillers. In 2004, the Federation moved toward a zero-tolerance policy. This was approved by the Veterinary Committee and representatives of the different national bodies. The risk of seriously injuring the horses was too great and this protective care was strongly endorsed by horse-lovers around the world. Horses should only be used when they are completely fit. It's therefore somewhat surprising to see the FEI change the policy to allow the use of a range of painkillers. Indeed, the decision has provoked outrage.

Yet, when it comes to humans, we routinely buy tramadol, dose ourselves and then carry on with sometimes energetic activities. The problem is the same as with horses. With pain suppressed, we can attempt to move normally and aggravate the existing injuries. As with everything, a balance has to be struck. Pain is inconvenient most of the time but nevertheless a useful warning when we might be overexerting ourselves. When we are recovering from injuries or learning to live within new physical limits, using tramadol is reasonable in the first stages of regaining mobility. But, in the long term, it's better to recover muscle tone and build stamina without the help of drugs. That way, we learn coping strategies and need only use a painkiller when the pain flares up again. We are entitled to the same protection as horses.

Yoghurt drinks and weight loss

There has been an interesting shift in newspaper journalism. In the good old days, it used to be all about the news. Now the stories are encased in bubble wrap so nothing can cause offense. Everything has two sides and, to achieve balance, both sides must be given equal prominence. Except when it comes to stories that might boost the sales of the corporations buying ad space in the newspapers and magazines. In these stories, readers are given only the bright side - the side that sells the products or services. Who needs balance when it builds the profits of a good customer. Which brings us to the coverage of probiotic yoghurt drinks. Here everything is sunshine and light. Did you know there are bacteria living in your stomach? Wow, tell me more. It's probable these bugs are what makes us fat! And. . . With the right research, probiotic drinks will kill the bad bugs and promote weight loss! Sounds like a miracle product is in the works and it will emerge to save us all from bad bacteria tomorrow.

This story is connected with the research being carried out at the Schools of Medicine at Washington University and the University of Colorado. This is a perfectly respectable project with funds provided by the National Institutes of Health. Their latest papers were published through the peer review system and are legitimate. But they do not conclude that high-fat diets and sugar cause obesity and the research does not mention any of the probiotics. In fact, the project experiments on the microbes in the guts of mice. It may be scaled up to humans in the future. But, for now, the researchers colonize "ordinary" mice with human microbes and then feed half a low-fat diet. The other half receives a traditional Western high-fat, high-sugar diet. Not surprisingly, the mice eating the Western diet gain weight. When the microbes from the fat mice are transferred to thin mice, the thin mice gain weight. It seems the Western diet transform the microbes into new varieties encouraging weight gain in any mouse.

There is much to follow up in this research but, just to be clear, there is no suggestion that the same diet changes the microbes in human guts nor that eating yoghurt will cause weight loss. The way the story has been presented misrepresents the science to sell the named probiotic drinks. In fact, there is no evidence published in any peer-reviewed journal to suggest that yoghurt changes a bad diet into a healthy diet. The only way to lose weight remains eating a healthy balanced diet alongside a regular program of exercise. If you find yourself feeling hungry while eating healthy food and working out in the gym, use phentermine - the only drug with a fifty year track record for suppressing your appetite. This drug has proved to be a miracle worker in being able to modify the messages coming out of the stomach and calming down the call for more food. So, to keep your motivation high when dieting, buy phentermine and feel satisfied with smaller portions. Continued over several months, you will find the weight dropping away and a new healthy body emerging. This is hard work but it pays off. Trust what you read in the newspapers about probiotics and the only thing you lose is your hard-earned dollars.

What is impotence?

The mechanism of male erection is so sophisticated and complex that there's no big surprise that sometimes it goes not as good as you'd wish to. Still, having problems with getting and keeping a good hard erection form time to time is nothing to worry about, because it happens to all men, and it's not impotence. A cause for concern is the situation when a man is having problems with erection in more than 25% of cases - that is what doctors start to call erectile dysfunction. ED can have various degrees of severity, ranging from ongoing problems with keeping the erection, early ejaculation to being completely unable to get an erection at all. But what is more important is that erectile dysfunction can have various causes, and by knowing which one has influenced impotence in every particular case is the key to treating the condition.

Erectile dysfunction can be a very strong signal, informing you that there's something wrong in your body. It usually doesn't take place on its own, being a side-effect of a much more serious condition. Erectile dysfunction is typically caused by two different sets of factors - psychological and physiological - which require their own ways of treatment. So before you engage in any practices or consider using medications, you first have to define what the root of your problem is.

Psychological causes for ED are probably the most widespread, because things like stress, anxiety and depression are met more often these days. Treating erectile dysfunction caused by such conditions can be relatively easy, because it usually doesn't involve any strong drugs or complicated medical procedures. However, when treating these conditions with certain anti-anxiety drugs and antidepressants you have to be careful, because they may be causing ED as a side-effect. So make sure to consult with a doctor or a pharmacist before starting a course of treatment.

Physiological causes for male impotence include a very wide range of conditions, which are primarily related to the health of blood vessels and nervous tissue in the penile area. Having diabetes, blood pressure problems, heard diseases, high cholesterol levels, kidney or liver diseases, recent surgical operations, cancer treatment or prostate problems will raise the likelihood of developing erectile dysfunction. This is where addressing the condition on its own, especially when it has been around for a long time, is not enough and using drugs such as Viagra is encouraged.

Lifestyle and habits can also be the cause for erectile dysfunction. It is a well known fact that alcohol abuse and heavy smoking influence the development of impotence in men, and the longer you follow these habits, the harder it will be getting back healthy erections after you're done. Shifting towards a healthier lifestyle, following a low-calorie diet, exercising and getting enough sleep can sometimes be a lot more effective than using Viagra, because a healthy lifestyle will improve the overall state of your body and not just the ability to have sex. So before you buy Viagra online, revise the way you treat your body everyday and see if there are some changes to be done.

What is cognitive behavioral therapy?

The marketers are out in force these days. They want to convince everyone that there is a pill to cure all ills. Oral medications are convenient for the patient. Just swallow and wait for results. They are profitable for the doctors because it takes only a minute to write out a prescription and wheel in the next patient. If you have to talk to the patients, this is fewer patients per day and less profit. It's great for the pharmaceutical industry. Just press the "go" button on the machines in the factory to make the pills and watch the money roll into the bank account. But, as a country, do we really want everyone to be dependent on pills? Surely there must be a better way of delivering treatment to those who need it. Well, in the question lies the answer. The most effective treatments deal with the patient as a human being with a problem instead of a piece of meat to be pacified and sent away with a pill. This is not to say that pills cannot and do not provide effective relief. The drugs used to treat anxiety are safe and effective. But all the major clinical trials show that cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) produces better results than drugs. So what is CBT?

If you have an anxiety disorder, you should be the focus of attention. You need to move from a negative mindset to a positive outlook on life. Let's take each of the letters in turn:

c = cognitive. Cognition is the process of thinking. It deals with beliefs, opinions and all the other emotions and ideas that run around inside our heads. The problem with anxiety is that you see the future and fear the worst. It's great to have foresight. It helps you avoid danger. But you need a sense of proportion. Not everything is really dangerous, not everything has to be perfect, so you need to learn new priorities. Stop the automatic fear response. Slow down and think about the world more carefully. With a little determination, you can be more focused, avoid anger and frustration, and build a better outlook.

b= behavior. This is what you do and this is your chance to put that new world view into practice. When you have learned the new skills of relaxation, you have to confront the real-world situations where you have felt anxious. No more hiding away. You have to destress, grow calm and find peace as you try to reach your goals.

t = therapy where a guide teaches you coping skills so you can heal and recover from all that negative emotion and find new purpose and optimism. This is not teaching you to be less anxious. It's teaching you to be more self-confident.

Nothing in CBT denies a role for xanax. It's a great drug for the relief of anxiety over the short term. In fact, using xanax helps to calm your mind and make you more responsive to the therapy. As your mind slowly changes around to a positive way of thinking, you can ease off on the drug and allow yourself to start living life afresh. Let your new self-confidence crowd out the old fears and leave your mind calm.

Don’t suffer from pain in vain!

Pain is what disturbs us from normal existence. Pain killers are the medications people spend most money on due to their effectiveness and hope that the pain will go away. Severe pain is the reason why most of us stop ourselves from living our ordinary life as nothing seems the same when you are unwell. Most medical assistants, who you may address, will tell you that toleration of the pain is not an option. Therefore they will prescribe a good drug to you in order for you to stop suffering. But before we go any further, let's talk about the severe pain relievers in general and discuss their effects on the body.

What is the most important fact that one needs to know about any pain-killer? Well, first of all, it has to be the fact that it is strictly forbidden for those who have allergies especially people allergic to alcoholic drinks and medication in general. Usually when taken out of proportion without previous examination, it is dangerous and risky in its actions. The normal average dose that one can consume without getting into trouble is 300 mg per day. But that, of course, depends on the drug you are about to take. Don't think it is alright to do it with any pill at all. All pain-killers are sold with prescription only. Your doctor will have to examine you good to make sure the drug is right for you.

There are many cases known when individuals consumed drugs that they were not supposed to consume and due to the fact that addiction can bring anxiety, depression and disorders to your life, so think before you go any further with drugs. It is also important to remember that if you happen to be allergic to pain-killing medication or if you have liver disease, kidney problem or mental illness you should avoid the pill. Or if it is the only thing that may help you get rid of your pain - please talk to your specialist in the hospital about the dose. You will probably have to take the reduced dosage. Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are not allowed to take any of this medication as it affects the unborn baby in a harmful way. Teenagers under 18 years of age are forbidden to take most of the pain-killers that are meant to treat severe pain

Pain-killers can really work miracles. Tramadol happens to be a good, working drug that can guarantee you a good result. This is a well-known fact. But you have to be careful with it as well as other drugs. Usually pain-relief pills not do always require food as they can go with it as well as without it. Try to not miss any doses and take the pill at the same time everyday. If you are willing to change something in your medical schedule please inform your doctor about it before any problems occur. If it happened so that you missed a dose and your doctor is out of reach, please remember to skip it and take the next one the same time as you took the last one. Don't try to keep up with the drug, rushing into it. It can only do worse. If you have some of the following symptoms after the consumption of any pain relief drugs you have to know you are overdosed. Slow heartbeat, light headed feeling, extreme weakness, fainting or coma are among those that can take your health state to hell. In some, rare cases, overdose can be fatal.

Tramadol is the pain-killing pill that has the appraisals of the most renowned specialists around the world. Nowadays it became very easy to buy the drug in every country just using various online services. Buy Tramadol and say goodbye to pain forever!

Latest researches on acupuncture

In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture has been used as a safe and effective form of treatment for centuries. The Western medical profession has always been sceptical about the medicinal effectiveness of sticking needles into people stating that all that works in this case is placebo effect. But a recent clinical trial reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine this May, has produced new evidence that may prompt a more general re-evaluation of the technique for the management of pain. The Group Health Center for Health Studies recruited some 640 people suffering from back pain. It is often difficult to make a precise diagnosis of the causes of pain in the back. People report a range of non-specific symptoms.

Many doctors are therefore trying a wide range of different therapies to see which produce the best results in relieving pain symptoms. Randomly dividing the recruits into four groups of 160, the volunteers were given genuine acupuncture, simulated acupuncture by pricking the skin with toothpicks in the correct locations, were randomly pricked with real needles, and were given conventional physical therapy. Therefore we obtain one genuine form of acupuncture, two kinds of placebo and conventional treatment.

The treatment in all four cases administered ten sessions over a seven week period. There were follow-up interviews to assess each patient's quality of life at 2, 6 and 12 months after the end of the treatment. About 60% of those who received one of the three versions of acupuncture reported significant improvement in mobility at all three interview. Only 40-50% of those who received a conventional Western form of treatment reported improvement. It seems that prodding someone with a toothpick is just as effective as actually inserting needles. This tends to confirm earlier research findings that social contact with the individuals administering the treatment is just as important as the treatment being administered. If the patient/therapist relationship is good, people derive benefit from the sessions.

This leaves the latest research findings uncertain. There was no clear evidence showing that "real" acupuncture is better than "fake" acupuncture. The way the mind and the body interact to create, send and understand pain messages is complicated. Medical science is making progress but, when it comes to back pain, it seems that both conventional and unconventional therapies can be equally effective because of the placebo effect. In the case of drugs, however, clinical trials have produced very clear evidence that they do work to reduce pain.

For moderate to severe pain, the use of tramadol has consistently been shown safe and effective. This has been confirmed by millions of patients around the world. But note the numbers from this latest study: 60% of those who received any version of acupuncture reported a good quality of life after 12 months. No matter how it works, it does reduce the pain and improve the mobility. So alongside the drive to buy tramadol, talk with your doctor about acupuncture or any of the other forms of therapy. While tramadol does work, it is not good to depend on it. Finding an alternative but effective form of treatment is the best long-term solution.
